Transitioning to college life with an eating disorder

I have several clients with eating disorders who are starting college for the first time in the fall. Freshman year in college can be a difficult transition for anyone, but the food situation is particularly challenging if you struggle with an eating disorder. This article has some good information about how to help the people you love transition to college life. I especially like the sample transition contract that you draw up with your student. It has specific target behaviors that your student will maintain if she is to stay in school. With a contract, everyone is on the same page and your student know what is expected and how to stay on track with recovery.

Resource for eating disorder struggles

Eating disorders can lead to feelings of hopelessness, but recovery is possible. Join us on 2/23/2013 for the Houston Eating Disorder Specialists Conference for a day of education and hope as we explore the latest advances in eating disorders care with local and national experts -  including Carolyn Costin, one of the foremost experts in the treatment of eating disorders . This conference will benefit anyone wanting more information about these treatable illnesses, including students, professionals, and those affected by eating disorders. You don't want to miss this.
